Yes, Maine first received CDC funding in the fall of 1994 and began providing early detection services in 1995.

What MBCHP provide?

This program provides breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services to underserved women provides public and professional education and supports community partnerships to enhance statewide cancer control activities.

Who is eligible for this program?

  • In order to be eligible to enroll in the MBCHP for breast and cervical cancer screening services, you must meet the following criteria: Be a Maine woman age 40 or older, and Have a household income less than or equal to 250% of the current Federal Poverty Level (FPL), and Have no health insurance, or health insurance that does not cover mammograms or Pap tests (preventive cancer screening services), or has high deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, or premiums.
  • Women receiving Medicare Part B or MaineCare benefits are not eligible for MBCHP.

What Mammograms and Pap tests are covered under these programs?

Limited openings for women age 35-39 who have seen a doctor and need additional tests for a possible breast or cervical cancer OR if you have not had a Pap in 5 or more years.

Is enrollment in the screening program provides coverage for screening services for one year?

Yes, Each year you will be given an opportunity to re-enroll in the screening program as long as you continue to meet MBCHP eligibility requirements.
