What are the screening services?

  • a Clinical Breast Exam and/or; a Pelvic exam and/or; a Pap test alone or; a Pap test and high-risk HPV test (HPV co-testing).
  • MBCHP will pay for a screening Mammogram (at MBCHP participating Mammography locations).

Is The Maine CDC Breast and Cervical Health Program (MBCHP) funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), and with Maine General Fund dollars?

Yes, Maine first received CDC funding in the fall of 1994 and began providing early detection services in 1995.

What The mission of the MBCHP provide?

They provide breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services to underserved women, to provide public and professional education, and support community partnerships to enhance statewide cancer control activities.

Who is eligible for this program?

  • Be a Maine woman age 40 or older*, and Have a household income less than or equal to 250% of the current Federal Poverty Level (FPL), and Have no health insurance, or health insurance that does not cover mammograms or Pap tests (preventive cancer screening services), or has high deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, or premiums.
  • Women receiving Medicare Part B or MaineCare benefits are not eligible for MBCHP.

Is Mammograms and Pap tests are covered under these programs?

Limited openings for women age 35-39 who have seen a doctor and need additional tests for a possible breast or cervical cancer OR if you have not had a Pap in 5 or more years.
