What does MBCHP pay for?

Breast and/or cervical cancer screening office visit performed at one of our designated network service locations.

Will I be given options to choose a service location?

Yes, during enrollment or re-enrollment.

What are their preventive cancer screening services?

1. Clinical Breast Exam and/or; 2. Pelvic exam and/or; 3. Pap test alone or; 4. Pap test and high-risk HPV test (HPV co-testing)

Who funded the Maine CDC Breast and Cervical Health Program (MBCHP)?

  • The U.S.
  • Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), and with Maine General Fund dollars.

When did Maine first received CDC funding?

In the fall of 1994 and began providing early detection services in 1995.

What is the mission of MBCHP?

To provide breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services to underserved women, to provide public and professional education, and to support community partnerships to enhance statewide cancer control activities.

What is the age eligibility requirement?

Be a Maine woman age 40 or older.

Is there an income restriction?

  • Yes.
  • Must have household income less than or equal to 250% of the current Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

What if I have insurance?

You must have no health insurance, or health insurance that does not cover mammograms or Pap tests (preventive cancer screening services), or has high deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, or premiums.

Who are not eligible for MBCHP?

Women receiving Medicare Part B or MaineCare benefits are not eligible for MBCHP.

Do Mammograms and Pap tests are covered under these programs?

Yes.

Do they have limited openings for women age 35-39?

Yes, those women who have seen a doctor and need additional tests for a possible breast or cervical cancer OR if you have not had a Pap in 5 or more years.

Does enrollment in the screening program provides coverage for screening services for one year?

Yes.

Will I be given an opportunity to re-enroll in the screening program?

Yes, as long as you continue to meet MBCHP eligibility requirements.
